Flight Path

Steadiness
is a virtue

yes but un-
steadiness

also has
its uses—

the butterfly’s
wobbly

flight for
example

which is its
only defense

against
predators

like my cat
who leaps

and swipes
and misses

unable
to track the

jagged
trajectory—

how did
nature know

to embody
such perfectly

calibrated
imperfections

in this dreamy
creature

Chuang-Tzu
dreamt of

or was dreamt
up by so

long ago and
which I

(possibly
also my cat)

am dreaming
of now?
