Pages general notes are here.

The pages on your website that have editable content are:

About: https://www.johnbrehmpoet.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=10&action=edit
(main content text, excerpt text for homepage and featured image)

Praise: https://www.johnbrehmpoet.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=417&action=edit
You’ll notice for this one that the text has formatting. This is created by choosing the “Quote” option from the choices in the box that appears when you click the “+” sign to add special content (see image below). If something doesn’t format correctly for you, go to the three dots in the top right corner of the page to access the “Code Editor” and check what is different in what you have just added to the blocks of code for the pre-existing quotes. It’s easier to spot the differences looking at the code sometimes.

The pages for Books, News and Poems are “holder” pages for the sections using custom posts. They should not be deleted but they should not be edited either.

Custom Posts

Other than the “About” page and “Praise” page, these records are where you will do most of your adding and editing.

There are general notes here

Books: https://www.johnbrehmpoet.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=books
Here is where you can open any of the existing books and edit the content

Essays:
Essays post-types work like this:

– if there is a pdf url added to the field for Internal urls, that will be what is opened by the “read more” link

– if there is not an internal url and there is an external url in the field for an external url, the external website page will open from the “read more” link.

– if there is not a link in either field but there is content in the main content field, the “read more” link will just open the single page and whatever is written in the main content field will be on that page.

Media & Events:
Use the “News” post-type to add new videos or events.

Poems:
The poems page displays all the poem custo post-types with alternating backgrounds down one page.

You’ll find that if you click “preview” the post will try and display in a single page and it will look terrible—that’s because there isn’t a page template set up to display poems as single pages. No one from the public should have this experience, because there aren’t links to single pages for poems.

If you have this experience, click on the “Poems” link in the navigation to view the newpoem in the full poems page.

If the poem is not formatted properly there, it would probably be a case of you having copied it from a Word (or other) file that has its own embedded styles.

It’s best to type directly into WordPress content fields to avoind this but if you do need to copy and paste a large amount of text, copy it first into a simple text editor (which will strip out the styles) and then copy it from there into the WordPress field.

You might still need to add <br> tags at the end of each line of the poem to get the right line-breaks.

Compare your new poem with an existing one (both in the visual and text tabs of the content editor) if in doubt.
